Comparison between Manual and Automatic Transmission

,
Both the automatic transmission and a manual transmission accomplish exactly the same thing, but they do it in totally different way.

Advantages of manual transmission over automatic transmission-

1.    It is easier to build a strong manual transmission than an automatic one. This is because a manual system has one clutch to operate, whereas an automatic system has a number of clutch packs that function in harmony with each other.
2.     Manual transmissions normally do not require active cooling, because not much power is dissipated as heat through the transmission.
3.     Manual gearshifts are more fuel efficient as compared to their automatic counterpart. Torque convertor used to engage and disengage automatic gears may lose power and reduce acceleration as well as fuel economy.
4.     Manual transmissions generally require less maintenance than automatic transmissions. An automatic transmission is made up of several components and a breakdown of even a single component can stall the car completely.

Advantages of automatic transmission over manual transmission-

1.      The manual transmission locks and unlocks different sets of gears to the output shaft to achieve the various gear ratios, while in an automatic transmission; the same set of gears produces all of the different gear ratios. The planetary gearset is the device that makes this possible in an automatic transmission.
2.      Automatic cars are easier to use, especially for the inexperienced car driver. Manual system requires better driving skills, whereas with an automatic, the clever system does it all on its own. This holds a greater advantage for new and inexperienced drivers and also helps during congested traffic situations where it becomes difficult to change gears every second.
3.    Automatic transmission requires less attention and concentration from the driver because the automatic gears start functioning as soon as the system feels the need of a gear change. For car with manual gear shifts, the driver has to be more alert while driving and better coordinated.
4.     There is no clutch pedal and gear shift in an automatic transmission car. Once you put the transmission into drive, everything else is automatic.
5.   Automatic cars have better ability to control traction when approaching steep hills or engine braking during descents. Manual gears are difficult to operate on steep climbs.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta Repair Manual

,
Alfa Romeo Giulietta Repair Manuals And TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS. 1 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR ALFA ROMEO GIULIETTA Franklin Edward Cunningham Jr. 2 The information contained Alfa Romeo Giulietta Repair Manuals is given for use in research and readers enlightenment in making the many decisions available regarding the tuning and maintenance of the Alfa Giulietta car. The writer in no way makes any claim or assumes any responsibility, that any or all the inclosed data is completely accurate. Only reliable repair manuals for the Alfa Giulietta such as “GLENN’S” and recognized Alfa experts such as “Alfa Ricambi inc. and International Auto Parts, as well as your local Alfa professional, should be final word. The main base of information for this work is the factory Giulieta’s work shop manual.

Other follow-up work shop manuals and related articles that have differing information have been included as source of expert opinion. The non-factory data is referenced where necessary by a (*) or/and italicize print. The reader then, at his or her option may choose which limits to use or accept for the application at hand for the car or work in question. This is therefore an example of, in some cases, a diverse set of tolerances and possible limits. This writer does not claim to be an expert and therefore make an opinion on the “right and correct” set to use. It is my intent to report on the experts and by sorting and comparing the data at hand, attempts do one or two things. One, by side by side comparison, helps eliminate confusion caused by quoting conflicting “expert” specs’ during bench racing secessions and two, give the reader the opportunity to see where historically work was done so that fine tuning on the car at hand can be made to obtain the best results.

Audi A3 2006 Audi A3 8P Concert II and Symphony II SAT Tuner Install

,

The following instructions are based on my personal experience and are in no way an official set of instructions. I provide no warranty whatsoever. If you use these instructions to install your own Audi satellite tuner, you do so at your own risk. I doubt Audi will cover any issues under warranty without charging you for the entire install. So, good luck.

These instructions are only tested for 2006 Audi A3 8P Concert II and Symphony II (BOSE) non-NAV

This process should work with either of the following SAT Tuners:

8E0 057 593A - XM
8E0 057 593 - Sirius

These tuners can be purchased at your local Audi dealer, eBAY or web vendors like http://www.clairparts.com/

This is a super ez mod consisting of the followoing steps that (according to Audis instructions) must be performed in this order:

  1. Install the tuner in the space provided on the left side of the boot area.(FIG 1)
    • lift plastic cover, there are 2 clip holes. A small screwdriver or a key will open easily. (Arrows in FIG 1)
    • Locate foam wrapped cable ends (FIG 2)
    • carefully clip zip ties from factory and unwrap the plug ends
    • remove bypass loop plug from CAN cable (FIG 3)
    • plug cables into sat tuner (FIG 4)
    • slide SAT tuner into the mounting bracket. Fit is very clean.
    • secure with 2 very small zip ties (FIG 5)
  2. Remove passenger side kick plate by door and connect CAN bus plugs
    • Carefully remove kickplate cover - Typical VAG plastic part with metal clips. Requires a firm tug in strategic places to remove w/o breaking anything. Take it slow and be careful. The plastic above the top clip needs some care to remove without stressing the plastic (FIG 6)
    • locate cables, they are wrapped to exisiting wiring bundles with masking tape
    • remove tape, plug CAN connectors together (FIG 7)
  3. Turn on car, press SAT button on stereo and tune to preview channel
    • Go to SAT vendor website and activate your SAT tuner, make sure unit is on and receiving signal when you do.

That was all I had to do!

You will notice no mention of VAGCOM, the official line from Audi, says you will have to use VAG COM, but I did not. I installed a Sirius tuner in a BOSE, SAT Ready, Non-Nav factory HU.

For your reference I am posting what I have been told needs to be done with VAG COM.

  1. Plug the CAN compliant VAG COM ito the A3 8P Dash port
  2. Select Option 56-RADIO
  3. Select Option 10-adaption
  4. Enter Channel number 99
  5. It will show -1- Slide bar to -0- Remember to Save Settings
  6. Display on VAG COMshould say that Value -0- was saved.
  7. Back out of the setting. Radio/SAT receiver should now operate.
  8. If you still see "No SAT Radio" when you hit the SAT button, you need to recheck the wiring. All CAN connections must be verified.

I plan to borrow a VAG COM to double check these settings, but I have been working 100% for a week without any VAg COM modifications.

The advancements made by Caterpillar engineers have positioned Caterpillar electronic marine engines as the worldwide standard in marine diesel technology. With millions of hours on the water, these proven engines ensure unmatched performance, reliability, and ease of operation. The ECM uses the information gathered by the sensors which are located throughout the engine and transmission to monitor all aspects of engine operation. Connected to the ECM by the wiring harness, the sensors detect and convert changes in pressure, temperature or mechanical movement into electrical signals. The electrical signals are sent to the ECM. The ECM uses information such as desired engine speed, and load to determine the fuel injection pressure, timing and duration. Based on sensor inputs, the ECM actuates the individual unit injectors to control engine speed.

2006 and up Honda Civic Si TWM Performance Shift Boot Installation Manual

,
2006 and up Honda Civic Si TWM Performance Shift Boot Installation Manual.2006 and up Honda Civic Si TWM Performance Shift Boot Installation Manual. Begin the installation by parking on a flat surface, as you may have to engage and disengage the hand brake and shift from gears to neutral. If you cannot do so and are obliged to install the shift boot on a slightly inclined surface, place wooden blocks in front or behind the wheels to prevent the car from moving while you’re working. Pull the emergency brake up to prevent the car from moving while you work. Looking down at the shift knob, turn the jam nut beneath the shift knob clockwise using a 14 mm wrench to loosen it.Remove the staples holding the shift boot to the plastic ring. A small flat head screwdriver or needle nose pliers can be used to pry the staples out. Use the wire cutters or scissors to cut off the extra length of zip tie. In order to ensure a smooth surface on the zip tie that will not damage the inside of the shift boot, trim it as pictured to the lower left. Cut the tie wrap so that the wire cutters remove a corner of the tie wrap head as well, instead of just trimming the excess length. This ensures a very smooth surface free of sharp edges as there will be no protruding tie wrap if it is cut in this manner. Now turn the shift boot right side out to prepare to mount it to the plastic base. Install the TWM shift boot on to the plastic base without removing the backing from the double-sided tape yet. The sewn flaps on either side of the shift boot should line up with the indentations on either side of the plastic base. In addition, the rectangular notches along the bottom of the TWM shift boot should line up with the 4 tabs that extend from the bottom of the plastic base as pictured to the left. If these do not line up, remove the boot and rotate it 180 degrees to line up the grooves and rectangular notches with the tabs.
